The All Wales Event

We are so lucky living in Wales for  many reason , not least in the fact that all the WSD Guilds in Wales meet up every two years in Llanidloes at the Minerva Arts Centre. This is not only a great event to meet up with other Guild members but there are also stalls full of goodies for sale to tempt us,then there is the afternoon talk, plus of course there is the Guild challenge that we all take part in.

A lot of work goes behind each Guild  challenge and each year its a different one. It could be making things out of different fibres or fleece or a different topic and this year the  topic was flowers and we were given the Snowdrop or Eirlys as its called in Welsh as our flower.

So we all set too doing our bit for our entry  with all sorts of fibres/fleece  gathered, dyed, spun, woven, knitted, crocheted, inkle loomed by Guild members and then brought together to make our Snowdrop .

The big day arrived and  a coach was hired and we all got up at the crack of dawn and traveled down to Llandiloes .As always when we all meet up  we are  full of chatter and laughter so the ride down  in itself was fun. When we arrived it was all haste to set up our displays and here is our challenge display.

Also each Guild displays work that they have done over the past two years . There was a bit of a hiccup re space for ours and due to lack of space  they had to be split up which was a bit of a shame.

It was then all very busy with lots of chatting with friends old and new , making the odd purchase perchance 😉 looking at other guild entries and ooohing and aaahing over things in general before it was time for lunch . The Minerva Centre is ideally located in the middle of Llanidloes so very convenient for cafes etc

After lunch we then went for the afternoon talk which this year was given by Laura Thomas   who gave us a talk about the work she had done or was in the process  of doing. I hadn’t realized that she had designed patterns for Melin Tregwynt  among other well known retailers. Her work was very varied and she is certainly a very busy lady.

Before we knew it was time for a last browse around the exhibition and a well earned ‘panned’ before getting back on the coach for the long trip home.

We all agreed it was a grand day out and had all enjoyed ourselves , even if we were all exhausted . The ride back home was still full of laughter and chatter though 😉
